El ciclista Carlos Alvarado Reyes, la basquetbolista Sandra Jiménez Mata y el automovilista Javier Quirós Ramos de Anaya ingresaron a la Galería Costarricense del Deporte el martes 10 de diciembre de 2013.

El acto oficial de incorporación, desarrollado en una espectacular ambientación que transportó a los presentes hasta la antigua Grecia y su mitología, fue presidido por Laura Chinchilla Miranda, Presidenta de la República; William Corrales Araya, Ministro de Deportes; Alba Quesada Rodríguez, Directora Nacional del ICODER; y Carlos Cortés Pacheco, Presidente de la Asociación Deportiva Salón de la Fama del Deporte Costarricense.
Los nuevos inmortales del deporte recibieron de parte de la Presidenta Chinchilla la medalla de oro que los acredita como nuevos miembros de la Galería del Deporte, y develaron las fotografías que pasarán al Salón de la Fama. Carlos Alvarado, fallecido en 1998, fue representado por sus hijos Carlos, Mercedes y Adrián.
A la cita organizada por el ICODER asistieron, además, entre otras personalidades, el Presidente de la Asamblea Legislativa, Luis Fernando Mendoza; el presidente del Comité Olímpico de Costa Rica, Henry Núñez, autoridades del Consejo Nacional del Deporte y la Recreación, familiares y amigos de los tres nuevos miembros de la Galería, otras glorias del deporte costarricense, y dirigentes de algunas federaciones y asociaciones deportivas.
En esta oportunidad el jurado que recomendó ante el Consejo Nacional del Deporte y la Recreación a los nuevos miembros estuvo integrado por Alba Quesada, Directora Nacional del ICODER; Carlos Cortés, Presidente de la Asociación Salón de la Fama; la dirigente deportiva Cristina González; el periodista Daniel Quirós y Gerardo Corrales, en representación de las universidades.
La Presidenta Chinchilla Miranda felicitó a los nuevos integrantes de la Galería del Deporte, a quienes consideró como verdaderos ejemplos de trabajo, dedicación y esfuerzo.
Para la mandataria, una ceremonia de esta categoría sirvió de escenario ideal para despedir un año 2013 pletórico de éxitos en el deporte costarricense, primero con los triunfos y la organización de los Juegos Centroamericanos (en 2013), luego con la clasificación al Campeonato Mundial de Fútbol, la organización del Mundial Sub 17 Femenino (marzo 2014), el otorgamiento de becas a los deportistas y el financiamiento permanente para el deporte a través del impuesto al tabaco.
Con la incorporación de Quirós, Jiménez y Alvarado, la Galería del Deporte cuenta con 133 inmortales desde su creación en 1969.

Three new immortals for the sport gallery of Costa Rica

The cyclist Carlos Alvarado Reyes, the basketball player Sandra Jiménez Mata and the motorist Javier Quirós Ramos de Anaya entered to the Costa Rican Sports Gallery on past Tuesday 10 December.
The official act of incorporation, developed in a spectacular setting that transported to those present to ancient Greece and its mythology, was chaired by Laura Chinchilla Miranda, President of the Republic, William Corrales Araya, Minister of Sports; Alba Quesada Rodriguez, National Director of ICODER; and Carlos Cortés Pacheco, President of the Sports Association Hall of Fame of the Costa Rican Sports.
The new immortals of the sport, have received by part of the President Chinchilla the gold medal that certifying them as new members of the Gallery of Sport, and were unveiled the photographs that will pass to the Hall of Fame. Carlos Alvarado, who died in 1998, was represented by his sons Carlos, Mercedes and Adrian.
To the event organized by the ICODER also attended, among other personalities, the President of the Legislative Assembly, Luis Fernando Mendoza; the president of the Olympic Committee of Costa Rica, Henry Núñez; authorities of the National Council of Sports and Recreation; relatives and friends of the three new members of the gallery, other glories of Costa Rican sport, and leaders of some sports federations and associations.
In this opportunity the jury that was recommended to the National Council of Sport and Recreation to the new members was composed by Alba Quesada, National Director of the ICODER; Carlos Cortés, President of the Association Hall of Fame, the sports leader Cristina González, the journalist Daniel Quirós and Gerardo Corrales, representing the universities.
The President Chinchilla Miranda congratulated the new members of the Gallery of Sport, to whom considered as true examples of work, dedication and effort.
For the president, a ceremony of this category was the perfect setting to fire an 2013 plethoric of success in the Costa Rican sport, first with the triumphs and the organization of the Central American Games (in 2013), then with the classification to the World Championships Football, the organization of the U17 World Feminine (March 2014), the granting of scholarships to athletes and permanent financing for the sport through the tobacco tax.
With the incorporation of Quirós, Jiménez and Alvarado, the Gallery of Sport count with 133 immortals since its creation in 1969.
