LAUSANA, Suiza, 2 de julio de 2014.- Hoy se celebra de manera oficial el 90 aniversario de la fundación de AIPS. Bajo estas líneas se transcribe el mensaje a todos los periodistas deportivos del presidente de AIPS, Gianni Merlo.

Estimados colegas, nuestra asociación fue fundada en París durante los cuatro primeros días de julio de 1924, cuando los periodistas se estaban reuniendo para informar sobre los Juegos Olímpicos en la capital francesa.

Un pequeño grupo de periodistas que fueron capaces de leer el futuro se reunieron para crear una organización capaz de defender los derechos de los periodistas deportivos. Eran través pionero porque tenían una visión de unificar los periodistas deportivos bajo una misma bandera, y eran colegas con mente abierta.

El primer presidente electo fue Franz Reichel que escribió para Le Figaro y fue el Jefe de Prensa de los Juegos Olímpicos de París. El entusiasmo del equipo original de increíble y todavía tenemos mucho que aprender de ellos.

EL PRESENTE – El estado actual del periodismo internacional es difícil; nos enfrentamos a una crisis profunda y nuestra profesión está cambiando continuamente. La libertad de prensa está en peligro a causa del llamado «poder político» quiere convertirnos en agentes de prensa dóciles, incapaces de un análisis crítico y profundo. Por esta razón, es importante que todas las naciones a unirse en la lucha por nuestra libertad de conciencia.

En casos recientes en los colegas del Reino Unido que son de alto nivel y opinionists honestos fueron despedidos con la excusa de que cuestan demasiado. Esta es una terrible mentira. Los «poderes fácticos» tienen miedo de que el pensador libre – esta es la verdad. El poder político quiere poner sus manos en el mundo del deporte. Se nos quiere amordazar pero no aceptamos esto y vamos a luchar por nuestra libertad.

LA DEFENSA – Es nuestro deber recordar al mundo que el periodismo deportivo tiene un papel fundamental en la evolución de la sociedad. Hablamos con los jóvenes del mundo; el nuestro es un verdadero mensaje de paz. Nuestro compromiso cultural no tiene fronteras.

LOS GUARDIANES – Los periodistas deportivos son, de alguna manera, los guardianes de la integridad y la honestidad del deporte y no hay que olvidarse de él, porque hablamos, sobre todo, a las jóvenes generaciones. Nuestro trabajo tiene una función social muy importante y que a menudo subestiman ella. En su lugar, debemos ser conscientes y orgullosos de nuestra misión y seguir luchando por la excelencia y el alto rendimiento.

LA PAZ – El deporte puede hacer mucho para promover la paz en el mundo; más de lo que a veces pensamos! Por esta razón debemos creer en nuestra misión.

CORRUPCIÓN – arreglo de partidos y apuestas ilegales es un cáncer que afecta el deporte. En muchos casos, el deporte está en manos de las organizaciones criminales que solo lo ven como un medio para un fin – un beneficio sucio. Debemos comprometernos en la lucha contra estos tipos de cáncer porque la corrupción es también un peligro para el futuro de nuestra profesión.

OPORTUNIDADES – Como periodistas tenemos que dar una señal clara, unida e importante para el mundo exterior. Creo que juntos somos capaces de defender no sólo, sino también para revivir nuestro mundo.

LAUSANNE, July 2, 2014. – Today is the official 90th anniversary of our association. Below is the message to all sports journalists from the AIPS President Gianni Merlo.By Gianni Merlo, AIPS President

Dear Colleagues,

Our association was founded in Paris during the first four days of July, 1924 when journalists were gathering to report on the Olympic Games in the French capital.

A small group of journalists who were able to read the future met to create an organization capable of defending the rights of sports journalists. They were trail-blazing because they had a vision to unify sports journalists under one banner, and they were colleagues with open minds.

The first elected president was Franz Reichel who wrote for Le Figaro and was the Head of Press for the Paris Olympics. The enthusiasm of the original team was incredible and we still have a lot to learn from them.

THE PRESENT – The current state of international journalism is difficult; we are facing a deep crisis and our profession is continually changing. Freedom of the press is in danger because the so called “political power” wants to turn us into docile press officers incapable of critical and profound analysis. For this reason, it is important for all nations to be united in the fight for our freedom of conscience.

In recent cases in the United Kingdom colleagues who are high level and honest opinionists were fired with the excuse that they cost too much. This is a terrible lie. The «powers that be» are afraid of the free thinker — this is the truth. The political power wants to put its hands on the world of sport. It wants to muzzle us but we do not accept this and we will fight for our freedom.

THE DEFENSE – It is our duty to remind the world that sports journalism has a fundamental role in the evolution of society. We speak to the young people of the world; ours is a true message of peace. Our cultural commitment has no borders.

THE GUARDIANS – We sports journalists are, in one way, the guardians of the integrity and honesty of sport and we mustn’t forget it because we speak, above all, to the young generations. Our work has a very relevant social function and we often undervalue it. Instead, we should be aware and proud of our mission and continue to strive for excellence and high achievement.

PEACE – Sport can do so much to promote peace in the world; more than what we sometimes think! For this reason we must believe in our mission.

CORRUPTION – Match fixing and illegal betting is a cancer affecting sport. In many cases sport is in the hands of criminal organizations who only see it as a means to an end – a dirty profit. We must engage in the fight against these cancers because corruption is also a danger to the future of our profession.

OPPORTUNITIES – As journalists we must give a clear, united and important signal to the outside world. I believe that together we are able to not only defend but also to revive our world.
