Berlin (dpa) – The future Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has dismissed the claims of six Bundesliga clubs to a greater share of television money due to their historical status.

«That’s trying to invoke a tradition which dates back 50 years but has nothing to do with the performance of the clubs in 2016,» Heidel, currently still with Mainz, told Kicker online Friday.

Earlier this week VfB Stuttgart, Hertha Berlin, Werder Bremen, Eintracht Frankfurt, SV Hamburg and Cologne formed a block which demanded the distribution of television money include a consideration of which clubs created the most interest in the Bundesliga product.

Presently television money is split between an even payment to all clubs and then the rest being divided as prize money relative to league position.
