BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 1 de enero de 2019.- En el último día del año, AIPS anunció los ganadores del premio al atleta del año. En esta oportunidad, la gimnasta norteamericana Simone Biles ocupó el primer lugar de la votación, en la que también estuvieron nominadas Ester Ledecka (snowboarding), Simona Halep (tenis), Ada Hegerberg (fútbol), Serena Williams (tenis), Mikaela Shiffrin (esquí sobre nieve), Katie Ledecky (natación), Marit Bjorgen (ski cross-country), Ekaterina Stefanidi (salto con pértiga) y Amandiene Leynaud (balonmano).
Al final, Simone quien regresó luego de haber tenido un año sabático en 2017, obtuvo 427 votos, dejando una amplia ventaja sobre Ester Ledecka quien fue segunda con 335 y sobre Simona Halep quien sumó 331, y demostrando que puede llegar a ser la mejor gimnasta de todos los tiempos.
En el 2018 ganó su quinto campeonato nacional, y en octubre fue la gran figura del campeonato mundial realizado en Doha, donde ganó cuatro medallas de oro y seis en total, logrando ser la primera atleta estadounidense en conseguir medallas en cada uno de los eventos de un Campeonato Mundial.
En la rama masculina, el futbolista Luka Modric fue elegido como el mejor del año con 419, el segundo lugar fue para el tenista Novak Djokovic con 337 y el tercer puesto fue para el también tenista, Roger Federer (290). En la lista también estuvieron los norteamericanos Lewis Hamilton (F1) y LeBron James (balocesto).
Francia fue elegido como el Mejor Equipo, por su título del Mundial de la FIFA en Rusia 2018, mientras que la oficina de Comunicaciones de esta Copa del Mundo, fue votada como el mejor centro de medios.

The Nothamerican Simone Biles crowned as the AIPS athlete of the year

BOGOTA, Colombia, January 1, 2019.- On the last day of the year, AIPS announced the athlete of the year winners. On this occasion, the North American gymnast Simone Biles took the first place in the voting, in which also were nominated Ester Ledecka (snowboarding), Simona Halep (tennis), Ada Hegerberg (soccer), Serena Williams (tennis), Mikaela Shiffrin (ski), Katie Ledecky (swimming), Marit Bjorgen (ski cross-country), Ekaterina Stefanidi (pole vault) and Amandiene Leynaud (handball).
At the end, Simone who returned after having a sabbatical year in 2017, got 427 votes, having a wide advantage over Ester Ledecka who was second with 335 and over Simona Halep who added 331, and demonstrating that she can become the best gymnast of all the times. In 2018, she won her fifth national championship, and in October she was the best at the world championship held in Doha, where she won four gold medals and six in total, been the first North American athlete to get medals in each of the events of a World Championship.
In Men’s competition, the football player Luka Modric was chosen as the best of the year with 419, the second place was for the tennis player Novak Djokovic with 337 and the third place was for his colleague, Roger Federer (290).
