BOGOTÁ, Colombia, 1 de febrero de 2018.- Cuba iniciará su camino en la Serie Mundial frente a los Heroicos de Colombia en las categorías 49, 56, 64, 75 y 91 kilogramos, este 2 de febrero, en condición de local.

El equipo colombiano que viajó a Cuba está conformado por Julián Velásquez, Jhon Martínez, Andrés García, Juan Ortiz y Julio Calimenio quienes estarán acompañados de los entrenadores José Salina, Raúl Ortiz y René Iznaga.
Para la segunda fecha de la serie, el municipio de Soledad, en el Atlántico, será de nuevo la sede del equipo colombiano ante Venezuela, el 23 de febrero, y Uzbekistán, el 23 de marzo.
EL DESTACADO COLOMBIANO
Yuberjen Martínez en los 49 kilogramos, es el mejor pegador en la rama aficionada que tiene el país, podría medirse a su gran verdugo, el uzbeco Hasanboy Dusmatov, el mismo que le arrebató la medalla de oro en los pasados Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016. Un año después, ambos pegadores volvieron a verse las caras en el Mundial de Boxeo en Hamburgo y el asiático, -una máquina de lanzar puños-, saboreó de nuevo el triunfo tras la decisión de los jueces.
Yuberjen, nacido hace 26 años en Turbo, nunca le ha ganado a Dusmatov y espera que, en casa, se dé la oportunidad. «Me estoy preparando fuerte para ganarle. Espero que esta sea la vencida. Me fue bien en Soledad el año pasado y espero repetir», destacó el púgil.
En junio de 2017 Yuberjen derrotó al cubano Jorge Griñán por decisión unánime y Colombia salió triunfante por 3-2. En Cuba fueron eliminados. Además de Yuberjen, el antioqueño Jorge Luis Vivas, en los 75 kilogramos, y Deivis Julio, oriundo de María La Baja, Bolívar, hacen parte de los Heroicos para el reto de 2018.
DEBUTAN INDIA Y CROACIA
El formato de competencia se mantendrá con tres grupos eliminatorios, los de Asia y Europa con cuatro equipos cada uno, y el de América, con solo tres. En la llave asiática, estarán además de los indios, los seleccionados Dragones de China, Patriotas de Rusia, y los campeones defensores Astana Arlans de Kazajistán. Por su parte, en Europa, se enfrentarán Leones de Gran Bretaña, Gallos de Francia, Thunder de Italia, y los debutantes Caballeros Croatas. Por último, en América solo participarán en esta oportunidad, Caciques de Venezuela, Heroicos de Colombia, y los cuatro veces finalistas, Domadores de Cuba.

BOXING OPENS FIRES: FRIDAY BEGINS THE VIII WORLD SERIES BETWEEN CUBA AND COLOMBIA

BOGOTÁ, Colombia, February 1, 2018. Cuba will begin its journey in the World Series against the Heroicos of Colombia at home, and in the 49, 56, 64, 75 and 91 kilograms’ categories, this February 2.
The Colombian team that traveled to Cuba is made up by Julián Velásquez, Jhon Martínez, Andrés García, Juan Ortiz and Julio Calimenio, and the coaches José Salina, Raúl Ortiz and René Iznaga.
For the second date of the series, Soledad a small town, located by the side of the Colombia’s Atlantic Ocean, will again host the Colombian team against Venezuela, on February 23, and Uzbekistan, on March 23.
THE COLOMBIAN FEATURE
Yuberjen Martinez known as the most outstanding amateur boxer in the 49 kilograms, in the country, could be facing his great opponent, the Uzbek Hasanboy Dusmatov, the same that snatched him the gold medal in the last Olympic Games, Rio 2016. A year later, both boxers met again at the World Boxing Championships in Hamburg and the Asian, a -fist throwing machine-, tasted again the victory after the judge’s decision.
Yuberjen, born 26 years ago in Turbo, Antioquia, has never beaten Dusmatov and hopes that, the opportunity will come at home. «I’m preparing hard to beat him. I hope to do it this time. I did well in Soledad last year and I hope to repeat», said the fighter.
In June of 2017 Yuberjen defeated the Cuban Jorge Griñán by unanimous decision and Colombia won the series 3-2. In Cuba they lost and were eliminated. Along with Yuberjen, Heroicos’s team will be made by Jorge Luis Vivas, in the 75 kilograms, and Deivis Julio who will go for the 2018 challenge.
INDIA AND CROATIA DEBUT
The competition format will be maintained with three elimination groups, Asia and Europe with four teams each, and the Americas, with only three. In the Asian side, the Indians as debutants, will be facing Dragons of China, Patriot of Russia, and defending champions Astana Arlans of Kazakhstan. In Europe, the teams are Lionheart of Great Britain, Fighting Roosters of France, Thunder of Italy, and the debutants Knights of Croatian. Finally, in America only Caciques de Venezuela, Heroicos de Colombia, and the four-time finalists, Domadores de Cuba, will participate in this opportunity.
