CONCEPCIÓN, Finalmente será Concepción, y no Santiago, en Chile, la sede del Campeonato Panamericano U20 de atletismo, uno de los tres eventos del calendario de la Asociación Panamericana de Atletismo (APA) programados para este año, que tendrá lugar del 22 al 24 de octubre.
Esta es la segunda vez que el evento, que se realiza desde 1980, tiene lugar en Chile, luego de la edición de Santiago 95, y las autoridades esperan tener a atletas juveniles de todas las federaciones deportivas del continente.
El presidente de APA, Marcos Oviedo, pidió a las autoridades atléticas de América estar atentos a la logística que implica el cambio de la ciudad sede, y a otros detalles como el visado para aquellos países que requieran este trámite para entrar al país, el cual “apenas empezó a abrir sus fronteras a raíz de la pandemia“, indicó Oviedo en un comunicado distribuido entre las federaciones afiliadas a APA. “Por favor, consulten con sus agencias de viaje para planificar con tiempo sus vuelos. Para los países que requieren visa de ingreso, aún los consulados chilenos en algunos países siguen cerrados. Por favor consulten con las autoridades diplomáticas chilenas en sus países sobre este asunto”.
Oviedo agregó que la Federación Chilena de Atletismo, presidida por Juan Carlos Carter, “está trabajando con su Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores para que a todos los consulados chilenos llegue la notificación de la celebración del evento y se facilite este proceso”.
El presidente reiteró la importancia de la participación de todos los países y recordó que durante el evento se realizará un congreso intermedio, por lo que es necesario que las selecciones postulen a sus delegados, o que estén directamente presente los presidentes.
El delegado técnico de APA, Giovanni Cardona, elaboró el Manual de Equipo, disponible acá https://bit.ly/3D8ewww según el cual cada país podrá inscribir máximo dos atletas y un relevo por prueba, todos nacidos entre 2002 y 2005, aunque los atletas de categoría menor (2004 y 2005) solo pueden participar en un máximo de dos pruebas.

This is the second time that the event, which has been held since 1980, takes place in Chile, after the Santiago 95 edition, and the authorities hope to have junior athletes from all the federations of the continent.
The APA’s president, Marcos Oviedo, asked the athletics authorities of America to be attentive to the logistics involved in the change of the host city, and other details such as the visa for those countries that require this procedure to enter the country which “just began to open its borders as a result of the pandemic” said Oviedo in a statement distributed among the federations affiliated to APA. “Please check with your travel agencies to plan your flights in advance. For countries that require an entry visa, the Chilean consulates in some countries are still closed. Please verify the Chilean diplomatic authorities in your countries for this matter”.
Oviedo added that the Chilean Athletics Federation, chaired by Juan Carlos Carter, “is working with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs so all Chilean consulates receives the notification of the event and facilitate this process”.
The president reiterated the importance of the participation of all the countries and recalled that an intermediate congress will be held during the event, so it is necessary that the national teams nominates their delegates, or that the presidents be present.
The APA technical delegate, Giovanni Cardona, made the Team’s Book, available here https://bit.ly/3D8ewww according to which each country may register a maximum of two athletes and one relay per event, all born between 2002 and 2005, although youth category athletes (2004 and 2005) can only participate in a maximum of two events.
