Un veterano periodista deportivo paraguayo, Juan Carlos Marecos Galeano, fue distinguido por el básquetbol de su país que decidió denominar la competencia oficial de su categoría de ascenso con su nombre.

Marecos comenzó su vida deportiva como atleta del club Sportivo Luqueño, integrando sus planteles formativos de fútbol en los años cuarenta y después abrazó la carrera directriz incursionando en el baloncesto en el mismo club. Llegó a formar parte del directorio de la Confederación Paraguaya de Básquetbol, en la que también fue titular de su divisional de ascenso.
Por llamativa coincidencia, justamente fue el Sportivo Luqueño el campeón del certamen 2013 de la Primera B de la Confederación Paraguaya de Básquetbol, que llevó el nombre del periodista, quien hizo entrega de la copa al capitán de la entidad auriazul en emotiva ceremonia después de definirse el título en el cuarto partido del play off ante Arca Básquet, en el estadio de Sol de América.
La trayectoria de Marecos en la comunicación deportiva arrancó a comienzos de los sesenta en Corporación Deportiva Fénix, grupo con el que sigue colaborando hasta estos días.
En el ámbito gremial, llegó a cumplir funciones en el Circulo de Periodistas Deportivos del Paraguay, entidad de la que es socio vitalicio.

A paraguayan veteran sports journalist, Juan Carlos Marecos Galeano, was honored for the basketball of his country that decided to name the official competition of its category of ascent with his name.
Marecos began his sporting life as an athlete of the club Sportivo Luqueño, as a part of its formative squad of football in the forties and then hugged the guideline career dabbling in basketball at the same club. He became part of the directory of the Paraguayan Basketball Confederation, in which was also head of the divisional of ascent.
By striking coincidence, precisely was the Sportivo Luqueño, the champion of of the 2013 contest of the Primera B of the Paraguayan Basketball Confederation, , which carried the name of the journalist, who made delivery of the Cup to the captain of the auriazul entity in an emotional ceremony after define the title in the fourth game of the playoffs against Arca Basketball, in the stadium Sol de America.
The trajectory of Marecos in sports communication started in the early sixties in Sports Corporation Phoenix, group with which continues to collaborate to this day.
At the guild, came to serve on the Circle of Sports Journalists of Paraguay, entity in which is life member.
