CARACAS, Venezuela, 8 de agosto de 2017.- La venezolana Yulimar Rojas hizo historia al conquistar la medalla de oro del triple salto para damas, en la final de la modalidad que se efectuó este lunes en el estadio Elizabeth II de Londres, Inglaterra, en el marco del Campeonato del Mundo de Atletismo.
Es la primera presea áurea mundialista para Venezuela en toda la historia de la máxima cita.

Rojas, de 22 años y medalla de plata en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río, se impuso a la doble campeona mundial y actual monarca olímpica, la colombiana Caterine Ibarguen, en un capítulo más del encarnizado duelo que ambas atletas suramericanas han protagonizado en los dos últimos años.
Pero en la final de la edición número 16 del Mundial que se disputa en la capital británica, Yulimar Rojas logró poner fin a la racha de la neogranadina, para darle a Venezuela su primera medalla de oro en la historia de estos eventos.
La serie de Yulimar en el foso de saltos fue la siguiente: 14.55 metros en el primer intento, 14.82 en el segundo, 14.83 en su tercera tentativa, 13.69 en su cuarto salto, 14.91 en su 5ta ejecutoria, marca que a la postre le dio la victoria y 14.50 en su sexto intento. Mientras que Ibarguen tuvo la siguiente serie de saltos: 14.67, 14.69, 14.89, 14.80, 14.71 y 14.88 metros.
Con esta victoria, Rojas se consagra como nuevo titular del orbe y consigue la primera dorada para Latinoamérica en el actual Mundial de pista y campo.
La presea de Rojas se suma a la medalla de bronce conquistada el domingo por la también venezolana Robeilys Peinado en el salto con pértiga, la primera presea en el historial del atletismo venezolano. Peinado, de 19 años, amarró el podio con marca de 4,65 metros.

In London, Yulimar Rojas conquered the very first Athletics gold medal in history for Venezuela

CARACAS, Venezuela, August 8, 2017.- The Venezuela’s born Yulimar Rojas made history by winning the gold medal at the women’s triple jump event, in the World Athletics Championships, competition that took place this past Monday at the Elizabeth II Stadium in London, England.
This is the very first world gold medal that any Venezuelan gets in the most important athletes event in history.
Rojas, 22 and Silver Medallist at Rio Olympic Games 2016, defeated the twice World Champion and current Olympic queen, the Colombian Caterine Ibargüen, in another chapter of the fierce duel that both South American athletes have had in the last two years. At the end, the final of the 16th edition of this World Cup in the British capital, was for Yulimar Rojas who managed to end the Colombian streak, to give Venezuela its first gold in the history of these events.
Yulimar’s results at the jump track were: 14.55 meters in her first attempt, 14.82 in the second, 14.83 in her third attempt, 13.69 in the fourth jump, 14.91 in her fifth one, distance that at the end gave her the victory, and 14.50 in the sixth and last attempt, Meanwhile Ibargüen registered the following distances: 14.67, 14.69, 14.89, 14.80, 14.71 and 14.88 meters.
With this victory, Rojas becomes the new champion and also gets the first gold medal for Latin America in the current World Athletics Championships track and field.
Rojas’s medal joints the bronze one won on Sunday by the also Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado in the pole vaulting event, being this the very first medal in the history of this South American country in the World Athletics Championships. Peinado 19, was in the podium after register 4.65 meters.
