TIJUANA, México, 1 de febrero de 2018.- México y Puerto Rico participarán en la primera ronda del Grupo II Zona Americana de la serie de Copa Davis por BNP Paribas, que se jugará el sábado 3 y el domingo 4 de febrero en la Cancha Central del Club Campestre.
En comunicado, el Instituto del Deporte de Baja California, informó que Leonardo Lavalle, capitán del equipo local, presentó al potosino Manuel Sánchez, al tijuanense Lucas Gómez, el jalisciense Luis Patiño, al jalisciense Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela y al veracruzano Santiago González, para disputar esta primera ronda ante los boricuas.
Manuel Sánchez, de 27 años, es el jugador número uno de México, actualmente está ubicado en la casilla número 559 de la ATP. Conquistó recientemente su tercer Campeonato Nacional. Debutó en Copa Davis en 2011.
Lucas Gómez, de 23 años, es el tenista más joven de la escuadra mexicana, ranking 833 de la ATP. Ante su gente y en su tierra seguramente se engrandecerá conseguir el triunfo de México. Debutó en Copa Davis en 2013.
Luis Patiño, de 25 años, se encuentra en el peldaño 943 de la ATP. Debutó en Copa Davis en 2016 y se ha mantenido en los primeros planos en el tenis nacional.
Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela, de 29 años, posee el ranking 106 en dobles de la ATP en donde ha hecho una carrera espléndida, al ascender el año pasado de la posición 351 a la 106, escalando 245 escalones. Debutó en Copa Davis en 2010.
Santiago González, de 35 años, es el jugador mexicano de mayor proyección en el tenis profesional, ubicado en la casilla 28 de dobles de la ATP, también es el de mayor experiencia en Copa Davis, en donde debutó en 2001.
Otro jugador que integra el representativo nacional es el tijuanense Tigre Hank de 27 años, actual 967 de la ATP. Debutó en Copa Davis en el 2014.
El capitán Leonardo Lavalle, es un referente del equipo Copa Davis en donde su actuación como jugador fue excepcional, participando en 25 eliminatorias durante 14 años, con triunfos sobre Alemania, Rusia, Suiza y España, entre otros.
Por su parte el capitán puertorriqueño Jorge González enfrentará este compromiso con: Alex Díaz, Ignacio García, Sebastián Arcila y Alejandro Rodríguez Vidal.
El representativo boricua es un equipo joven que vienen de ascender al Grupo II de la Zona Americana, sus tenistas no tienen ranking ATP, y se destacan por participar en el tenis universitario de Estados Unidos.
Alex Díaz, de 20 años, forma parte de la escuadra boricua desde el 2015. Cursa el segundo semestre de su primer año en la Universidad de Georgia.
Sebastián Arcila, de 19 años, se enfrenta a su cuarta oportunidad con el equipo. En el 2017 comenzó a dar sus primeros pasos dentro del circuito en Torneos Futuros. Se prepara para comenzar estudios en la Florida State University.
Ignacio García, de 18 años, ya ha alcanzado tres títulos consecutivos en el Campeonato de Tenis de Puerto Rico. Comenzó sus estudios en la Florida Atlantic University.
Alejandro Rodríguez Vidal, de 19 años, acaba de completar con éxito su etapa como jugador juvenil. Fue admitido en la Xavier University para cursar estudios y formar parte de su equipo de tenis.
El capitán Jorge González, fue inducido en 2016 al Salón de la Fama del Tenis Puertorriqueño. Esta será su décima participación en Copa Davis.

Mexico and Puerto Rico Teams ready for Davis Cup

TIJUANA, Mexico, February 1, 2018.- Mexico and Puerto Rico announced the names of the players that will participate in the first round of the Group II American Zone of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, which will be played on Saturday 3 and on Sunday 4 of February at the Central Court of the Campestre Club.
In a statement, the Sports Institute of Baja California, informed that Leonardo Lavalle, captain of the local team, presented Manuel Sánchez, Lucas Gómez, Luis Patiño, Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela and Santiago González to play this first round against the Puerto Ricans.
Manuel Sánchez, 27, is the Mexican number one, currently #559 in the ATP ranking. He recently won his third National Championship. His debut in Davis Cup was 2011.
Lucas Gomez, 23, is the youngest player in the Mexican squad, ranking ATP #833. In his city and in front of his people he will surely magnify itself to obtain the Mexico’s victory. He debuted in Davis Cup in 2013.
Luis Patiño, 25, is #943 in the ATP. His debut in Davis Cup was in 2016 and he has remained at the top of the national tennis.
Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, 29, is the #106 at the ATP in doubles where he has made a splendid career, climbing last year from position 351 to 106, going up 245 places. He debuted in Davis Cup in 2010.
Santiago Gonzalez, 35, is the Mexican player with the greatest projection in professional tennis #28in the doubles ranking at the ATP, he is also the most experienced in Davis Cup, he debuted in 2001.
Another player part of the National Team is Tigre Hank, 27 years old, currently #967 of the ranking. His debut was in 2014.

The Puerto Rican representative is a young team that just came to the Group II of the American Zone, their tennis players do not have ATP rankings, buy thet have had good participation in the US university tennis.
Alex Diaz, 20, has been part of the Puerto Rican squad since 2015. He is in the second semester of his first year at the University of Georgia.
Sebastián Arcila, 19, faces his fourth chance with the team. In 2017 he began to take his first steps in the circuit in Future Tournaments. He prepares to begin studies at Florida State University.
Ignacio García, 18, has already reached three consecutive titles in the Puerto Rico Tennis Championship. He began his studies at Florida Atlantic University.
Alejandro Rodríguez Vidal, 19, has just completed his stage as a young player. He was admitted to Xavier University to study and become part of it tennis team.
Captain Jorge Gonzalez was introducing into the Puerto Rican Tennis Hall of Fame in 2016. This will be his tenth participation in Davis Cup.
