TOKIO, Japón, 13 de julio de 2021.- El aire es caliente, húmedo y pegajoso. Tokio está preparada para los primeros Juegos Olímpicos en plena pandemia con su habitual clima veraniego sofocante. No es casualidad que en 1964 se hayan organizado en octubre, pero en aquella época no eran los contratos de televisión los que dictaban las fechas de los Juegos.

La llegada masiva de equipos comenzó la semana pasada. El tiempo es incierto, se esperan tormentas todos los días por la tarde y luego el sol con 33 grados, que se percibirán como 43…
Aterrizaje – Por suerte para nosotros, la llegada al aeropuerto de Haneda, más pequeño y cercano al centro que el de Narita, fue mucho más complicada que en anteriores ediciones olímpicas. Antes de desembarcar, los empleados de la organización han pedido que se rellene un formulario en el avión, un procedimiento rápido pero inesperado. Sin embargo, así se evita inmediatamente un atasco. En una estación situada 200 metros más allá, han comprobado si se han descargado las dos apps que nos ayudan a tener información sobre la salud y la organización y para que la organización sepan dónde estamos en todo momento…

Si resulta que la prueba se hizo a las 10.30 y tres días después el vuelo sale a las 11.20, no se cumplen las 72 horas por 50 minutos y podrían surgir problemas delicados, porque se superarían los límites exigidos y esto podría invalidar el proceso. Así que hay que prestar mucha atención a este detalle tan importante.
Organización eficaz – Para evitar el contacto directo con la población, el transporte de todas las personas relacionadas con los Juegos Olímpicos está separado del transporte público. Los equipos son llevados directamente a la villa o al cuartel general donde han decidido completar la preparación, los periodistas y los técnicos a la terminal principal de la ciudad y, desde allí, todos reciben un bono gratuito para un taxi «seguro» que les llevará al hotel. Una coordinación perfecta.
Los que están en contra – El porcentaje de japoneses que están en contra de los Juegos sigue siendo alto, pero hace dos días una manifestación frente al hotel, que acoge a Thomas Bach y al COI, atrajo a poca gente. A estas alturas ya saben que la maquinaria organizativa ya no se puede parar, pero son incapaces de aceptar que el Gobierno haya agudizado las fuertes restricciones, pero no tan fuertes con respecto a nuestro encierro. Nos sonríen, pero prefieren no hablar de lo que sienten por dentro. Siguen siendo amables, aunque sean inflexibles con las normas que debemos cumplir. No podemos culparles porque, si aflojaran, luego sería difícil gestionar el malestar resultante. No están acostumbrados a la improvisación ni a la elasticidad en la interpretación de las normas.
Los pesimistas – A continuación, para levantar la moral de los escépticos, intervino también Hirotada Hirose, un conocido experto en «riesgo de catástrofes», que declaró a la agencia de prensa francesa que los organizadores de los Juegos deberían haber tenido en cuenta el peligro devastador de los terremotos y tifones, habituales en esta zona del mundo asentada en el Anillo de Fuego.
La razón – Está claro que tal afirmación suscita algunas dudas incluso en el optimista más inquebrantable. Pero hay que seguir pensando en positivo, porque estos Juegos deben ser también una nueva experiencia sobre cómo afrontar la pandemia sin tener que renunciar a todo. También en Europa es probable que se vuelva a sufrir después de la Eurocopa, pero desgraciadamente ya no es posible volver atrás. Es necesario que todos, incluso los negacionistas, entiendan que hay que seguir nuevas reglas de vida que no atenten contra los verdaderos derechos de la libertad individual.

By now they know that the organizational machine can no longer be stopped, but they are unable to accept that the Government has sharpened the heavy restrictions, but not so heavy with respect to our lockdown. They smile at us, but they prefer not to talk about what they feel inside. They continue to be kind, even if adamant about the rules we must follow. We cannot blame them because, if they loosened their grip, it would then be difficult to manage the resulting discomfort. They are not used to improvisation and elasticity in the interpretation of the rules.

The pessimists – Then, to rage the morale of the doubters, Hirotada Hirose, a well-known expert of «disaster risk», also intervened, declaring to the French press agency that the organizers of the Games should have taken into consideration the devastating danger of earthquakes and typhoons, which are common in this area of ​​the world sitting on the Ring of Fire.

The reason – It is clear that such a statement raises some doubts even in the most unshakable optimist. But we must continue to think positively, because these Games must also be a new experience on how to deal with the pandemic without having to give up everything. In Europe, too, there will probably be suffering again after the UEFA European Championships, but unfortunately it is no longer possible to go back. It is necessary that everyone, even the deniers, understand that new rules of life must be followed, which do not undermine the true rights of individual freedom.
