Buenos Aires, Argentina , 30 de agosto de 2014.- Por primera vez, un argentino va a presidir la máxima organización del básquetbol mundial. Este jueves, en Sevilla, se anunció oficialmente que Horacio Muratore será el nuevo presidente de FIBA hasta el 2019. Casualmente, el día de su nombramiento coincidió con la conmemoración de los diez años de la obtención del máximo logro de la Confederación Argentina de Básquetbol (CABB), cuando Muratore era su Presidente: la medalla de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos de Atenas.

En este Congreso Mundial en Sevilla, 116 federaciones nacionales eligieron a 12 de los 29 miembros que conformarán el Buró Central de FIBA y que será presidido por un argentino, encargado de suceder al fránces Yvan Mainini. Pero, ¿quien es este argentino?

Muratore tiene 62 años y nació en la San Miguel de Tucumán en Argentina. Comenzó su carrera dirigencial en el Club Tucumán BB, fundado por su padre, donde fue el tesorero mientras estudiaba la carrera de Ciencias Económicas.

Fue Presidente de la Federación Tucumana de Básquetbol durante 10 años y luego elegido para dirigir la Confederación Argentina de Básquetbol durante 16 años (desde 1992 hasta 2008). Al mismo tiempo, desde 1993 al 2006 presidió también la Confederación Sudamericana de Básquetbol (CONSUBASQUET) y desde 2002 integró el Comité Ejecutivo de la FIBA.

Conoce el básquetbol hasta en sus más recónditos rincones. “Nadie me puede engañar porque conozco todos los estratos, desde la subcomisión de básquet de mi club (Tucumán BB) hasta ahora que seré Presidente de la FIBA”, afirma Muratore.

Horacio está casado con Nelly, su mujer “de fierro”. Es padre de cuatro hijos: Ramiro (37), Luciana (35), Silvina (30) y Eliana (29), además de abuelo de seis nietos. Hijo de un pionero dirigente de Tucumán de quien, según Horacio “estaría orgulloso de mi logro”.

Luego del Mundial, el argentino se convertirá en el duodécimo Presidente de la FIBA y el segundo latinoamericano después del brasileño António do Reis Carneiros (quien presidió FIBA entre 1960-1968).

Para su gestión, Muratore planea una serie de cambios estructurales, de estatutos, y calendarios, tratando de incorporar más plazas mundiales para este deporte para potenciarlo aún más.

Aunque todavía no es suficientemente reconocido en su país, Muratore ya entró en la galería de los argentinos más famosos del deporte. Y a pesar de recién comenzar su mandato al frente de la FIBA, el quiere, que al retirarse, lo recuerden como un dirigente que “logró unir al básquetbol y potenciarlo a nivel mundial, pero siempre con honestidad».

El Currículum de Muratore

• Nacido en San Miguel de Tucumán.

• Contador Público, egresado de la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán.

• Fue jugador, Tesorero y luego Presidente del Club Tucumán B.B., institución en la cual su padre fue socio fundador.

• Fue Presidente de la Federación Tucumana de Básquetbol, durante 10 años, hasta que ingresó como titular de la CABB.

• Desde el año 1992 hasta el 2008, ejerció la presidencia de la Confederación Argentina de Básquetbol, que nuclea a 25 federaciones de todo el país, habiendo resultado reelecto en tres oportunidades.

• Desde el año 1993 hasta marzo del 2006, también fue presidente de la Confederación Sudamericana de Básquetbol (CONSUBASQUET), entidad que reúne a los 10 países del continente.

• Desde agosto del año 2002 hasta el momento, es también integrante del Buró Central de la FIBA, la máxima institución del baloncesto en el mundo, representando a todo el continente americano.

• También fue vicepresidente 2º de FIBA-AMERICA desde el año 1994 hasta 2006 y desde allí hasta el 2009, vicepresidente primero. Desde abril de 2009 hasta 2014, presidente de FIBA-América.

• Fue Miembro del Comité Ejecutivo CEMBA-90, ente del Estado creado para organizar el Campeonato Mundial 1990, en Argentina, en representación de todas las federaciones del país.

• Durante su gestión, se lograron campeonatos Sudamericanos, Panamericanos, en las distintas categorías tanto en masculino como femenino. También el subcampeonato Mundial y título Olímpico en los Juegos de Atenas 2004, en las distintas categorías y medalla de bronce en los Juegos Olímpicos de China, en el año 2008.

• Además fue Secretario Administrativo, Académico y Control de Gestión en distintos períodos desde el año 1975, hasta 2004, de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán.

• También fue docente de la Cátedra Contabilidad I, en Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad Nacional de Tucumán.

• Fue Vicepresidente de FIBA-Internacional, desde el año 2010, y recientemente elegido su Presidente hasta el 2019.

Who is the argentine head of the FIBA?

This thursday in Seville, was officially announced that Horacio Muratore become president of FIBA until 2019. Horacio is married to his wife «iron» Nelly. He is the father of four children: Ramiro (37), Luciana (35), Silvina (30) and Eliana (29). Grandfather of six grandchildren and son of a pioneering leader of Tucumán. «My father would be proud of my achievement,» says Muratore.

After the World Cup, the Argentine will become the twelfth President of the FIBA and second in Latin America after Brazilian António dos Reis Carneiros (who chaired FIBA between 1960-1968).

For its management, Muratore plans a series of structural changes, statutes, and calendars, trying to incorporate more places for world cups and further enhance this sport.

Although not yet sufficiently recognized in your country, Muratore has entered the gallery of the most famous Argentine of the sport. And despite he just beginning his term as head of FIBA wants to be remembered as a leader who «managed to unite basketball and promote it worldwide, but always with honesty».
