BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, 4 de enero de 2018.- Del 9 al 17 de noviembre de 2018, en República Dominicana, como motivo del Aniversario Cincuenta de las Olimpiadas Especiales se llevará a cabo el Torneo Global de Tenis de Olimpiadas Especiales. El mismo reunirá unos cuatrocientos atletas de cincuenta países. La ceremonia tendrá como anfitrión al Despacho de la Primera Dama, Cándida Montilla de Medina, y el Ministerio de Deportes como institución operativa.
Por su parte Montilla de Medina fue quien puso la iniciativa de suscripción de un acuerdo con Danilo Díaz, ministro de Deportes, y Claudia Echeverry, Presidenta y Directora regional de Olimpiadas Especiales América Latina. Al respecto la Echeverry expresó que “es un sueño hecho realidad, el año pasado empezamos las conversaciones con varios Estados para dar la posibilidad de desarrollar la celebración de nuestro 50 Aniversario”. Y agradeció “a la importante participación de doña Cándida y toda su delegación en los Juegos Latinoamericanos, en Panamá, tuvimos la oportunidad de conocernos mejor, de estrechar lazos”.
Díaz, por su parte, dijo: “Es una gran satisfacción la que sentimos que este acuerdo se materialice a través del deporte, como una vía muy efectiva para desarrollar los procesos de inclusión y de participación dentro de la sociedad”.
En el acto de firma también participaron Maricarmen Arauz, Gerente de Alianzas Corporativas de Olimpiadas Especiales América Latina; Rafael Ovalles, director del Instituto de Formación Técnico Profesional (INFOTEP); Soterio Ramírez, viceministro de Deportes; Oscar Villanueva, vicepresidente de Quiéreme Como Soy y Persio Maldonado, presidente de la Federación Dominicana de Tenis. También Katty Nicasio en representación de Juan Batlle, Presidente de Olimpiadas Especiales RD; Kirenia Tavárez encargada de Deportes Adaptados y Ana Verónica Adames en representación de Juan José Báez, viceministro de Deportes y Miguel Reyes, asesor en Materia de Asuntos Internacionales del Despacho.

Dominican Republic prepares to host the Global Tennis Tournament

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, January 4, 2018.- From November 9 to 17, 2018, in the Dominican Republic, the Special Olympics Tennis Global Tournament will take place as a reason for the Fifty Anniversary of the Special Olympics. It will gather about four hundred athletes from fifty countries. The ceremony will be hosted by the Office of the First Lady, Cándida Montilla de Medina, and the Ministry of Sports as an operating institution.
For its part, Montilla de Medina was the one who put the initiative of signing an agreement with Danilo Díaz, Minister of Sports, and Claudia Echeverry, President and Regional Director of Special Olympics Latin America. In this regard the Echeverry said that «it is a dream come true, last year we began talks with several States to give the possibility to develop the celebration of our 50th Anniversary.» And he thanked «the important participation of Doña Cándida and her entire delegation in the Latin American Games, in Panama, we had the opportunity to get to know each other better, to strengthen ties».
Díaz, for his part, said: «It is a great satisfaction that we feel that this agreement is materialized through sport, as a very effective way to develop the processes of inclusion and participation within society.»
