PEKIN, China, 28 de agosto de 2015 – Los Sport Media Pearl Award fueron presentados en la recepción ofrecida por AIPS durante los campeonatos del mundo de atletismo, ante una multitud reunida de dignatarios deportivos encabezados por el presidente de la IAAF (Federación Internacional de Atletismo) Lamine Diack y quien lo sucederá, Lord Sebastian Coe.
Más de 150 periodistas asistieron a la «pasta party” celebrada en el Hotel Intercontinental de Pekín, que también honró Diack, quien deja de dirigir la IAAF después de 16 años.
El presidente de la Comisión de Atletismo de AIPS, Marc Ventouillac, y J. Chen, de Honav, presentaron a Diack (82 años), ex saltador de altura y futbolista en su Senegal natal.
Lord Coe, uno de los mayores corredores de media distancia de la historia, que ganó los 1.500 metros en dos ocasiones en los Juegos Olímpicos, también estuvo presente. Coe fue el presidente de la candidatura de Londres para los Juegos Olímpicos de 2012 y, posteriormente, presidió exitosamente el comité organizador. Asumirá el liderazgo de la IAAF a partir del próximo martes, tras haber sido vicepresidente de la IAAF y también presidente del Comité Olímpico Británico.
El departamento de comunicaciones de la IAAF recibió un trofeo de AIPS de parte de la secretaria general interina de AIPS, Evelyn Watta, en reconocimiento las excelentes condiciones de trabajo durante el Mundial atlético de de Pekín.
El presidente de AIPS, Gianni Merlo, instó a los periodistas a presentar sus trabajos en línea para el premio -cuyos ganadores se darán a conocer en diciembre en Abu Dhabi- en el portal www.sportmediapearlawards.com, antes del 7 de septiembre de 2015, que es la fecha límite.
El ex corredor de vallas y campeón olímpico Liu Xiang, uno de los principales deportistas de China, ya retirado, fue homenajeado por AIPS por su destacada trayectoria. Ahora trabaja como periodista en los eventos atléticos.
El recién coronado campeón del mundo de 400 metros vallas, Nicholas Bett, de Kenia, que estuvo presente en la recepción junto a decenas de atletas activos y rerados, también fue honrado por su sorpresivo triunfo. El trofeo de AIPS fue entregado por el presidente de la AIPS África, Mitchell Obi.

Sports Pearl Media Awards presented to sporting leaders, athletes and journalists in Beijing

BEIJING, August 28, 2015 – The Sports Pearl Media awards was presented at the traditional AIPS reception at the world athletics championships to a packed crowd of sporting dignitaries led by IAAF president Lamine Diack and his successor Lord Sebastian Coe on Friday in Beijing.

Over 150 journalists attended the ‘pasta party’ held at the Intercontinental Hotel, that also honoured Diack, after 16 years of steering the IAAF and serving in various roles continentally and nationally with a Power of Sport Award trophy presented by Honav.
The chairman of the AIPS Athletics Commission Marc Ventouillac and J. Chen of Honav presented Diack, a former high jumper and footballer who has also served sports in Africa and his native Senegal in various capacities with the trophy.
The 82-year old, a former Africa Athletics President, is a retired IOC member and served in the National Olympic Committees and Athletics Federation. He was a football technical director, a sports Minister amongst many other roles.
Lord Coe one of the greatest middle distance runners who won the 1500m twice at the Olympics, also received a Power of Sport trophy. Lord Coe was the Chairman of the London bid for the 2012 Olympics and thereafter led the successful Games organising committee.
Lord Coe who assumes leadership of the IAAF from next Tuesday is the IAAF vice-president and also chairman of the British Olympic Association, was presented with his award by AIPS President Gianni Merlo.
Hurdlers Liu Xiang, Bett honoured
The IAAF communications department responsible for overseeing the exemplary press facilitates for the media covering the world championships at the National Stadium, received an AIPS trophy from AIPS Interim Secretary General Evelyn Watta, for making the best of the conditions that were used during the Beijing Games.
AIPS President urged journalists to submit their entries for the awards- whose winners will be unveiled in December in Abu Dhabi- on the online portal www.sportmediapearlawards.com before September 7th, 2015 the final deadline.
Former Olympic champion hurdler Liu Xiang, one of China’s leading athletics figure now retired, was celebrated for his outstanding career. He is now working as a journalist at the championships.
Newly crowned 400m hurdles world champion Nicholas Bett of Kenya who was among tens of active and retired athletes present at the reception,was also honoured for his surprise win with an AIPS trophy handed over by AIPS Africa President Mitchell Obi.
