TIJUANA, México, 4 de enero de 2018.- La Federación Mexicana de Tenis, A. C., el Gobierno del Estado de Baja California a través del Instituto del Deporte y Cultura Física, la Presidencia Municipal de Tijuana, el Instituto Municipal del Deporte y Tenis Asociado de Baja California, presentaron oficialmente la Serie de Copa Davis y la preselección del equipo que estará representando al país en la primera serie de Copa Davis en la deberán enfrentar a Puerto Rico, por el Grupo II de la Zona Americana.

El equipo quien tiene como capitán a Leonardo Lavalle, ex tenista que logró 1 título de sencillos en el circuito y quien fue finalista en el cuadro de dobles de Wimbledon junto al argentino Javier Frana, jugará como local en el Club Campestre de Tijuana, entre el 3 y el 4 de febrero de 2018.
Con la presencia del Lic. José Antonio Flores Fernández, Presidente de la Federación Mexicana de Tenis, se dio a conocer los nombres de los nueve tenistas pre seleccionados:

LA SERIE MÉXICO VS. PUERTO RICO
Estos dos países se vuelven a enfrentar después de 2013, en el grupo II de la Zona Americana, frente a frente que favorece a los mexicanos 1-0.
México llega después de haber perdido en la primera ronda frente a Guatemala y de ganarle a Paraguay, mientras que Puerto Rico ascendió del Grupo III Zona Americana luego de vencer 3:0 a Jamaica, a Antigua y Barbuda, a Bermuda, a Honduras y 2:1 a Costa Rica.
MÉXICO
Su debut en Copa Davis fue en 1924. En sus 93 años ha disputado 174 series y ha estado 10 años en el Grupo Mundial, aunque no ha llegado a ser campeón. Santiago González con 30 eliminatorias jugadas y 16 años como parte del Equipo es el tenista más representativo de los mexicanos, Alejandro Hernández es quien ha ganado más partidos de sencillos y Rafael Osuna quien tiene más triunfos totales.
PUERTO RICO
Debutó en Copa Davis en 1992 y en sus 26 años su mejor actuación ha sido en 1993 cuando llegó a la final del Grupo II de la Zona Americana. Su tenista más destacado es Gabriel Montilla quien tiene el record de más triunfos totales 38, más triunfos individuales 21 y más triunfos en dobles 17, mientras que Gilberto Álvarez registra más eliminatorias jugadas, 38 en un total de 11 años.

Para el Presidente de la Federación, Lic. José Antonio Flores Fernández, la sede en Tijuana es de lujo, “El tenis nacional está de fiesta, ya que Tijuana será anfitriona por segunda ocasión de La Copa Mundial de Tenis, la competencia por equipos más grande del mundo y en donde participan 131 países del planeta cada año. Esta ciudad fronteriza debutó en Copa Davis el mes de octubre de 1981, hace 37 años, en serie de Grupo Mundial con triunfo para México sobre Suiza por 3-2”.

TIJUANA, Mexico, January 4, 2018.- The Mexican Tennis Federation, the Government of the State of Baja California through the Institute of Sport and Physical Culture, the Municipal Presidency of Tijuana, the Municipal Institute of Sport and Associate Tennis of Baja California, officially presented the Davis Cup Series and the preselection of the team that will be representing the country in the first round of Davis Cup in which they will face Puerto Rico, at the Group II Americas.
The team that has as captain Leonardo Lavalle, former tennis player who won 1 singles title in the circuit and who was finalist in at Wimbledon doubles draw with the Argentine Javier Frana, will play at the Club Campestre de Tijuana, between February 3 and 4, 2018.

THE MEXICO SERIES VS. PUERTO RICO
These two countries will meet again after 2013, when they faced also for the Group II Americas, and the head to head goes to the Mexicans 1-0.
