We’ve been talking about it since the awarding on June 13, 2018 in Moscow, Russia, when it was official the organization of the 2026 World Cup in Canada, USA and Mexico (134 votes in favour) that will have to organize the 23rd edition with 48 countries between June and July in detriment of Morocco which won only 65 votes. Knowing that the CONCACAF zone, after the three host countries which are automatically qualified, will be entitled to three other places, reason why more than one think that Haiti should not miss this event. But what do we have to do to participate?
Historical wink!
The first edition of the World Cup, held in 1930 in Uruguay, took place in the form of invitations, and FIFA had, for the occasion, giving them and counted with the registration of sixteen teams, but only thirteen nations responded favourably to participate in the tournament (France, Belgium, Rumania and Yugoslavia by UEFA; United States and México by CONCACAF; Uruguay (host country), Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Chile by CONMEBOL).
From 1934 to 1978, only sixteen countries, including the host country, used to take part in the World Cup, and Haiti, which had missed out the 1970 edition (El Salvador having taken the best match), would take the only place available for the CONCACAF zone giving access to the 1974 World Cup in Munich, Germany.
Despite numerous reforms, the World Cup passed from 1982 to 1994 to 24 countries and from 1998 to 2022 to 32 countries, Haiti has never taken part in a final phase of the World Cup. In the process, the best performance of the Grenadiers in the playoffs of this competition dates back to 1981 when Haiti had reached the first phase of the tournament before passing the exit door. For the rest, the generations of very good footballers rise massively and goes everywhere, but Haiti is only seeing countries in the region such as Honduras (1982, 2010 and 2014); Canada (1986 and 2022); Jamaica (1998); Trinidad and Tobago (2006) or even closer to us Panama (2018), whose participates in the celebration of the world football, no need to mention United States, México and Costa Rica that generally are qualified to play in the most important football tournament in the planet .
Playing the 2026 World Cup, the coup is possible!
If it proves to be difficult to compete with the trio: United States, Canada and Mexico, due to their financial means, their high-range infrastructures and their pools of footballers playing in major clubs in Europe, Haiti, in 2026, will have a great opportunity to make a comeback in the concert of Nations, because the tenors of the zone (automatically qualified as the host country trio) will not take part in the next qualifiers. With the new reform of FIFA, namely the organization of the World Cup with 48 countries, CONCACAF will be entitled to three other countries, and Haiti if it respects itself, should be a serious candidate to delight one of the three directly qualified places.
Alongside Haiti, countries like Honduras, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Costa Rica and even Curaçao are potential candidates to seek places giving access to the 2026 World Cup. In other words, the Grenadiers who have not lost to Costa Rica (1 win and 2 draws) in the last three confrontations (2019 to the present day) and which have had very good results against the other countries mentioned above, has a card to play if it respects the team and if it prepares in advance.
In addition to say that there will be two places for medals. In fact, with the exception of Europe with 16 countries qualified directly, the other five confederations: AFRICA (9), ASIA (8), CONMEBOL (6) and OCEANIA (1), will be entitled to one country against two for CONCACAF that will have to compete in an intercontinental play-off tournament to win the last two matches giving access to the 2026 World Cup.
What to do to participate in the 2026 World Cup?
Everything goes through the reorganization of our football, among other things, the execution in a short time of the FIFA’s mission entrusted to the Normalization Committee of the FHF which consists in managing current affairs, check the statutes and the electoral code in order to guarantee its compliance with the requirements and principles of the FIFA Statutes, and ensure its approval by the General Assembly of the Football Haitian Federation, which was developed with the help of FIFA; the resumption of our national tournaments (Divisions 1, 2 and 3); better recruitment of players of Haitian origin playing abroad; and appointing at the head of our national teams competent and qualified coaches.
All in all, the cup is possible, but to get there, we must combine our strengths in the positive direction, to give the step towards the fixed aim, while surpassing ourselves oneself and placing the interest of football in the first place.
COUPE DU MONDE 2026, HAÏTI PARTICIPERA-T-ELLE À CETTE FÊTE?

Sachant que la zone CONCACAF, après les trois pays hôtes qui sont qualifiés d’office, auront droit à trois autres places, plus d’un pensent qu’Haïti ne doit pas rater cet événement. Mais que doit-on faire pour y participer?
Clin d’oeil historique!
La première édition de la Coupe du monde, tenue en 1930 en Uruguay, a eu lieu sous forme d’invitations, et la FIFA avait, pour l’occasion, lancé les invitations et table sur l’inscription de seize équipes, mais seulement treize nations répondaient favorablement pour participer au tournoi (France, Belgique, Roumanie et Yougoslavie pour l’UEFA; USA et Mexique pour la CONCACAF; Uruguay (pays hôte), Argentine, Brésil, Bolivie, Pérou et Chili pour la CONMEBOL).
De 1934 à 1978, seulement seize pays incluant le pays hôte, avaient l’habitude de participer à la Coupe du monde, et Haïti qui avait raté sur le fil l’édition de 1970 (El Salvador ayant pris le meilleur en match d’appui), allait prendre la seule place disponible pour la zone CONCACAF donnant accès au Mondial de 1974 à Munich, en Allemagne.
Malgré de nombreuses réformes, la Coupe du monde passée de 1982 à 1994 à 24 pays et de 1998 à 2022 à 32 pays, Haïti n’a jamais pris part à une phase finale de Coupe du monde. Dans la foulée, la meilleure prestation des Grenadiers aux éliminatoires de cette compétition, remonte à 1981 où Haïti avait atteint le tournoi hexagonal avant de prendre la porte de sortie. Pour le reste, les générations de très bons footballeurs se succèdent massivement et pleuvent de partout, mais Haïti ne fait que constater des pays de la région comme Honduras (1982, 2010 et 2014); Canada (1986 et 2022); Jamaïque (1998); Trinité et Tobago (2006) ou encore plus près de nous Panama (2018), participer à la fête du football mondial, point besoin de mentionner les USA, le Mexique et le Costa Rica qui sont généralement qualifiés pour disputer la Coupe du monde.
Jouer la Coupe du monde 2026, le coup est possible!
S’il s’avère être difficile de concurrencer le trio: USA, Canada et Mexique, de part leurs moyens financiers, leurs infrastructures de haute portée et leurs viviers de footballeurs évoluant dans de grands clubs en Europe, Haïti, en 2026, aura une belle occasion de faire son retour dans le concert des nations, car les ténors de la zone (qualifiés d’office pour être le trio pays hôte) ne prendront pas part aux prochains éliminatoires. Avec la nouvelle réforme de la FIFA, à savoir l’organisation de la Coupe du monde avec 48 pays, la CONCACAF aura droit à trois autres pays, et Haïti s’il se respecte, devrait être un candidat sérieux pour ravir l’une des trois places qualificatives directes.
A côté d’Haïti, des pays comme Honduras, Jamaïque, Trinité et Tobago, Panama, Costa Rica voire Curaçao, sont des potentiels candidats pour aller chercher les places donnant accès à la Coupe du monde de 2026. Autrement dit, les Grenadiers qui n’ont pas perdu devant le Costa Rica (1 victoire et 2 nuls) sur les trois dernières confrontations (2019 à nos jours) et qui ont eu de très bons résultats face aux autres pays précités, a une carte à jouer s’il se respecte et s’il se prépare à l’avance.
Dire qu’en plus qu’il y aura deux places de barrages. En effet, à l’exception de l’Europe avec 16 pays qualifiés directes, les cinq autres confédérations : Afrique (9), Asie (8), CONMEBOL (6) et Océanie (1), auront droit à un pays contre deux pour la CONCACAF qui auront à disputer un tournoi intercontinental de barrages pour ravir les deux dernières places donnant accès à la Coupe du monde de 2026.
Que faire pour participer à la Coupe du monde 2026?
Tout passe par la réorganisation de notre football, entre autres, l’exécution dans un bref délai de la mission de la FIFA confiée au Comité de normalisation de la FHF qui consiste à gérer les affaires courantes, réviser les statuts et le code électoral afin de garantir leur conformité avec les exigences et principes des Statuts de la FIFA, et veiller à leur adoption par l’assemblée générale de la FHF, élaborer avec l’aide de la FIFA; la reprise de nos championnats nationaux (D1, D2 et D3); un meilleur recrutement des joueurs d’origine haïtienne évoluant à l’étranger; nommé à la tête de nos sélections nationales des entraîneurs qualifiés et compétents.
Tout compte fait, le coup est possible, mais pour y arriver, il faut que l’on conjugue nos efforts dans le sens positif, de manière à atteler le pas vers l’objectif fixé tout en faisant le dépassement de soi et de mettre l’intérêt du football à la première place.
